Apple has officially announced the iMac 2021. The new desktop has a different design and comes in several fresh, summery colors. This is everything you need to know about the new iMac.
Apple announces iMac 2021
After months of rumors and speculation, Apple has finally officially announced the iMac 2021. The new desktop computer has been radically renewed and in this article we list the biggest changes.
The new iMac runs on the M1 chip, which Apple created itself and previously added to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. This makes the desktop faster, more energy efficient and starts up a lot smoother. In addition, you no longer have to wait for apps to start, because this is almost instant. Even when the iMac is in sleep mode, it is immediately ‘awake’ and ready to use.
The new design of the iMac 2021 is particularly striking because of the fresh, beautiful colors. There are seven in total. Unfortunately, the screen edges are still on the thick side. Especially the screen edge at the bottom is very large. However, Apple says the bezels are thinner than the previous-generation iMac, which has also made the screen larger. The iMac 2021’s display is brighter and is 24 inches in size. The screen also reflects less thanks to a new coating.
Better FaceTime camera and Touch ID
A nice improvement is that the FaceTime camera has been improved. Apple uses a larger sensor, so the lens receives more light. This is useful in less light conditions, because it gives you a better picture. The resolution has also gone up to 1080p. The speakers have also been improved and the microphones have also been renewed.
The iMac 2021 is also good in terms of connections. On the back are four 4 USB-C connections and two Thunderbolt ports. The iMac can also be connected to a 6K display, such as the Pro Display XDR from Apple itself. A small, but smart feature is that there is an ethernet connection in the power adapter. This allows you to connect to a wired internet connection in this way. The power cable is also magnetic.
The new iMac 2021 comes with a new keyboard and matching mouse. A cool feature is that the keyboard has a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. You use it to unlock the iMac safely and quickly, by simply putting your finger on the button for a moment.
