This is the new Ford Edge

The Ford Edge said goodbye to the Dutch market in 2019 after an adventure of only four years. The SUV was at the dealers from January 2016 and was replaced by a facelifted version in March 2019. The updated Edge is even rarer on the Dutch road network than the original, as the updated Edge was already removed from Ford’s delivery range in August of the same year. Elsewhere in the world, the Edge can last longer. For example, it is still for sale in the United States and, until recently, it was also delivered in China. In China it is only listed as Edge Plus, a three-seat version of the Edge that is about 10 centimeters longer than the original at 4.88 meters, but which shares its 2.85 meter wheelbase with the well-known Edge. That Edge Plus will remain available for the time being, but will get this Ford Edge L next to it.

The Ford Edge L is exactly 5 meters long, 1.96 wide and 1.77 meters high. This makes it 12 centimeters larger than the extended version of the old Edge. The Explorer, positioned significantly higher in the market, is only marginally larger at 5.05 metres. The wheelbase of the Edge L is 2.95 meters. This means that the distance between the front and rear axles is 10 centimeters greater than the previous Edge. But Ford has a bunch of other SUVs that the Edge L is relatively close to. The Edge L developed by joint venture Changan Ford has cars such as the Territory unknown here, the Equator Sport (4.63 meters), the Escape called Kuga here and the Equator without Sport addition that is about 4.9 meters long beneath. That the Edge L would come is probably no surprise. AutoWeek could already show you the car in August last year.

The appearance of the Edge L is neatly in line with that of cars such as the Mondeo, Evos and the aforementioned Equator duo. The interior of Ford’s new SUV also shows similarities to that of the Mondeo and Evos. Central to the dashboard is a whopping 27-inch display next to the digital instruments. The Edge L has three rows of seats and offers space for seven occupants. The car will be available in China with a 252 hp 2.0 Ecoboost four-cylinder, but will also receive a 275 hp hybrid variant.

This Ford Edge L will most likely not come to Europe. Ford will soon launch a new SUV in Europe. A fully electric even. The officially still unnamed newcomer shares the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group and is one of the two MEB SUVs that Ford will deliver here.
