‘Stage Manager’ big reason for absence
The big reason behind the absence of iPadOS 16 is the development of the Stage Manager feature. This is reportedly taking longer than Apple originally hoped. Stage Manager allows you to use multiple apps on the iPad at the same time with floating windows. This makes your iPad a step less of a ‘big iPhone’ and more of a MacBook.
When you open an app, it appears centrally on your iPad. The apps that you (temporarily) do not use are shown on the left of the screen. With a tap on an app on the sidelines you open it. However, we found Stage Manager a bit disappointing in the beta, so we’re glad Apple is taking some time. The result: you are wondering where iPadOS 16 is.
When will iPadOS 16 be released?
Apple has already confirmed: iPadOS 16 will be released sometime in October. We don’t know an exact date yet. We expect the release to be about a week after the announcement of the low-cost iPad 2022 and a new iPad Pro, which are said to be announced in October.
For now you can only install iOS 16 and watchOS 9 is also available for those who wear an Apple Watch on the wrist. macOS Ventura – the major macOS update – is also expected in October.
