WhatsApp and Signal may look alike, but if you have just switched to Signal, these iPhone tips are not a superfluous luxury.
Tips for when you switched to Signal
Signal is a fully -fledged alternative to WhatsApp and also has privacy a lot higher. Reason enough to switch with your friends. These iPhone tips help you on your way.
1. Set username
You can set a username in Signal. People can then send you messages via that username so that you do not have to give your telephone number. When you create a username, it is not visible on your profile. To set a username, follow these steps:
- Open Signal and tap your profile photo at the top left;
- Tap ‘Settings’ and tap your profile photo again;
- Now tap ‘username’ and then on ‘Set username’;
- Enter the desired name and tap ‘Ready’ at the top right.

2. Adjust the appearance
To make Signal more personal, you can adjust things. Think of the color of the background and the speech bubbles in chats. To do this, go to the settings and tap ‘appearance’. Now tap ‘chat color & background’ and adjust the settings as desired.

3. Disappearing messages
Just like in WhatsApp you can also send messages in Signal that automatically disappear after a certain time. That function is therefore called ‘disappearing messages’ here. To set this up, go back to the settings and tap ‘Privacy’. Then you tap ‘disappearing messages’. Set up for a while and tap ‘Set’ at the top right. This setting now applies to all new chats that you start yourself.

You can also add ‘disappearing messages’ to existing chats. To do this, open the desired chat and tap the name of the contact at the top. Then tap ‘disappearing messages’ and set up again for a while.

4. App locking
Do you want to prevent someone with access to your iPhone from reading your Signal messages? Then lock the app with Face ID. To do this, go to the settings, tap ‘Privacy’ and enable the ‘App locking’ option under ‘App protection’. Choose the desired duration behind ‘Inactivity period for app locking’.

5. Reduce calls
Calling via Signal is just as easy as via WhatsApp. The disadvantage is that your IP address is then unnoticed unnoticed. If you don’t want that, you can reduce the call. To do this, go to the settings again, tap ‘Privacy’ and then on ‘advanced’. Call in the option ‘Reduce all calls’.

6. Signal on your Mac
You can also use Signal on your Mac, so that you are not distracted by your iPhone during work or studying. Download the app through the website And follow the steps of the installation. Then you go to the settings in the iPhone app, tap ‘linked devices’ and choose ‘Pairing a new device’. Scan the QR code and your messages appear on your Mac!
