Ford E-Transit Courier

Ford presents the all-new Transit Courier and the E-Transit Courier. Yes, a version with a combustion engine and an electric one. The choice is huge with Ford’s smallest van, although we still have to be patient.

Highlights

  • First with fuel engines
  • Later also as E-Transit Courier
  • Quirky nose
  • On the market early 2024

Ford actually pulls the curtain off two vans in one stroke. In the photo above you see (in blue) the Ford E-Transit Courier, but there will also be a Transit Courier without E. We will start with the E-Transit Courier, because that is the most special of the bunch. Ford’s smallest van is, as before, on the same basis as the current Fiesta (and therefore also the Puma) and both are only available with fuel engines. The E-Transit Courier is based on a modified version of that base, so that electric propulsion is now possible. We knew that was going to happen; after all, the Ford Puma will be joined by a fully electric version this year. The Ford E-Transit Courier has the honor to reveal some technical secrets about what is possible.

Charging and charging

Unfortunately, the information about the electrical performance is somewhat sketchy here and there. We know that the Ford E-Transit Courier has a 136 hp electric motor on board, can be charged on the fast charger with a maximum of 100 kW and then recharged from 10 to 80 percent in just under 35 minutes. In 10 minutes you have about 87 km driving range. If you want to top up with the AC charger, you can do so with 11 kW and you can go from 10 to 100 percent battery charge in almost 6 hours. The top speed is 145 km/h. Unfortunately, we will not get to hear the most interesting information for many, because the range will be announced by Ford at a later date.

Of course it’s not just about charging, but also about full charging at the Ford E-Transit Courier. Well, it will. It has grown a bit compared to its predecessor and now swallows 2.9 cubic meters instead of 2.3. After all, the Ford E-Transit Courier (and the fuel version Transit Courier) is also a bit longer. In length you now have more than 1.80 meters of cargo space, which was 1.62 m. In the width between the rear wheel arches, the growth is even more pronounced (1.22 m instead of 1.01 m), thanks in part to the new rear suspension that takes up less space. The maximum loading weight has also increased considerably, which grew from 582 to 700 kg. Incidentally, the models with combustion engine can optionally handle an even higher load weight: 845 kg. Do you want to be able to pull? Even then you have come to the right place with the combustion engines. The diesel (1.5 EcoBlue 125 hp) tows 1,100 kg, the petrol models (100 hp and 125 hp 1.0 EcoBoost) tow 1,000 kg. The E-Transit Courier kicks it up to a towing weight of 750 kg.

Own style

The new Ford (E)-Transit Courier is not only more versatile and spacious than the previous one, it also has a nice and stubborn design. In fact, as we could see from the spy photos recently, it has a nose like we don’t know from Ford in Europe. Striking, because it is just a European Ford and it will run side-by-side with Puma in Romania. The Ford Transit Courier has a slightly different front than the electric Ford E-Transit Courier, with a more sober appearance and of course a real grille.

Ford E-Transit Courier

The Ford E-Transit Courier has the most complete workplace.

There is more distinction in the interior. Both versions have a dashboard that is somewhat similar in places to the cockpits of the Fiesta and Puma, but there are differences between them. For example, the Ford E-Transit Courier has a large panel on the dashboard as standard with a 12-inch digital instrument panel and an equally large infotainment screen, on which Sync4 runs and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also work. We get to see the Transit Courier with somewhat more modest screens. In addition, the Transit Courier has a separate button cluster incorporated in the middle part of the dashboard, which is also somewhat different in design.

As we are used to from Ford Pro, some striking skills are also added to the Transit Courier. For example, you can see in the photo below that the co-driver’s seat can optionally be folded forward in its entirety, behind which a hatch provides a passage to the cargo area. As a result, you can extend the maximum loading length to 2.66 meters and, among other things, shelves or, as demonstrated here, ladders can be put in the van. The Ford E-Transit Courier also has a frank where you can stow 44 liters of luggage and with the Office Pack you conjure up a folding work surface in the interior to set up your laptop, for example.

Ford Transit Courier

The Ford E-Transit Courier will go into production at the end of 2024, so it will take a while. In the run-up to the market introduction, Ford will announce more, such as the range. The Transit Courier with petrol and diesel engines is coming to market earlier; it can be ordered in the second half of this year and delivery is expected to start early next year. Incidentally, there is also a passenger version in the barrel, the Tourneo Courier and an electric E-Tourneo Courier is expected.
