We’ve been hearing for months that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is going to get a new periscope lens. But how far will you be able to zoom in with the iPhone 15 Pro Max?
iPhone 15 Pro Max gets new camera
There have been rumors for months about the iPhone 15 Pro Max and which camera the phone will get. These have been telling for some time that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a periscope lens. This allows you to zoom in much further than was possible with the iPhone until now. According to the latest rumors, it has now finally been independently confirmed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will indeed get the new periscope lens.

The rumors also confirm that the new camera will only come to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro therefore has to do without a periscope lens. This is presumably due to the size of the phone. The periscope lens is in fact horizontal in the phone and needs more space than the ‘normal’ vertical camera. This makes the lens fit better in the larger housing of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Camera can zoom in more than twice as far
If we are to believe the rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will soon be able to zoom in more than twice as far as you can now with the iPhone 14 Pro. With the new camera it will probably be possible to zoom in up to 6x, while with the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) you can now zoom in up to 3x. The periscope lens therefore probably represents a significant improvement for zooming in with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
With the improved camera, Apple once again becomes a formidable competitor of companies such as Samsung and Google in the field of photography. With the Pixel 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, it has been possible to zoom in between 5x and 7x for much longer. The camera of the iPhone was still quite behind in that area, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max finally changes that.
Earlier renders already confirmed the new camera
That the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s new periscope lens has now been independently confirmed is consistent with previous renders of the phone. The camera lenses protrude much less on the iPhone 15 Pro Max than we have seen on the renders of the iPhone 15 Pro. The fact that the lenses of the new phone are thinner points to the arrival of the new periscope camera. After all, it lies horizontally in the phone.
