Soon also in the Netherlands?

What sounds like music to the ears of some people is ordinary noise pollution for the majority of people. Something has been found: ‘speed cameras’ that go off at too loud cars.
The sound of fuel engines triggers something for many car enthusiasts. A nice roll of a five-cylinder, a howling V12 or a roaring V8, it has something special. However, it can also become a bit too much of a good thing, if you hang a milk can from an exhaust under it, for example. Of course you can already get a fine if you are caught with a car that makes too much noise, but some have found a solution to that. With the push of a button, a cover in the exhaust system secretly closes and suddenly it sounds a lot more civilized. In Australia, the United States, but also in Paris, a system is being tested to catch and fine troublemakers red-handed.
The Australian Drive reports that cameras are now being installed in the Sydney area that use microphones to detect exactly how much noise a car makes and which car exactly does that. An ‘acoustic monitor’, aimed at a lane, checks whether the sound is coming from there and how loud the sound is. A regular camera can then record which car is currently driving on that road section. If the noise standards are exceeded, the owner of the car will automatically be fined. Such systems are also being tested in California and New York, as reported earlier Road & Track and the American Car week. Closer to home, in Paris, a practical test has already been carried out and, according to the New York Times still have to become active this year and actually be able to hand out fines.
Would you like to see such a system here in the Netherlands? Let me know in the comments.
