Nice folding
The Netherlands is a real caravan country. However? It still is, but the folding trailer is gaining popularity. Significantly more new folding trailers were sold last year than in 2021, according to figures from the Kampeer and Caravan Industrie trade association.
In 2022, 3,200 new folding trailers will be sold in the Netherlands. That is more than 20 percent more than the 2,600 units purchased in 2021. That too was quite a number. In 2019, less than 2,000 new folding trailers found an owner.
The most popular newly sold folding trailers came from the manufacturers Campooz, Cabanon and Jamet. There are currently more than 100,000 folding trailers in the Netherlands. There are still considerably more caravans and motorhomes in the Netherlands. No fewer than 420,000 caravans and 180,000 camper vans are registered in the Netherlands. The Netherlands has a total of 700,000 ‘mobile sleeping quarters’. Never before have there been as many as now.
According to KCI chairman Leo Diepemaat, the increasing popularity of folding trailers may be related to the rise of hybrid and electric cars, which are often not allowed to pull much. The folding trailer is lighter and has limited air resistance due to its limited height. All in all, favorable for consumption. Another factor, according to Diepemaat, is that folding trailers are now much easier to use than they used to be.
