With iOS 17, cool features are coming to your iPhone again. One of those new features is sharing an AirTag with others. Until iOS 17, it was not possible to share the location of an AirTag with other Apple users. Only the owner of the tracker would then see the AirTag in the Find My app under ‘Objects’.

This has changed with iOS 17, because then you can share an AirTag with others. The location of the tracker can be shared with a total of five other Apple users. They will therefore see the AirTag in the Find My app. Extremely useful if you have placed the AirTag in the car or hung it on your dog’s collar, for example. You can then share the location with everyone in your family.
This is how you share an AirTag with others
Do you want to share the location of your AirTag? Then make sure you have iOS 17 installed on your iPhone. The official release of the operating system is coming next month, but you can already put the public test version of iOS 17 on your iPhone. Here we explain how you can get started with the new features of the iOS version.
If you want to share the AirTag, you must first have iOS 17 on all devices with which you want to share the location. The iPad must be on iPadOS 17 for the new feature. You can then invite other Apple users to track the tracker’s location. It goes like this:
- Open the Find My app on your iPhone (or iPad);
- Go to ‘Objects’;
- Tap the AirTag you want to share;
- Choose ‘Share this AirTag > Continue’;
- Select the contact you want to share the AirTag with;
- Then tap Share to share the AirTag.
After you tap Share, the selected contact will receive an invitation to share the AirTag. Once accepted, the AirTag will be visible in the Find My app. No invitation notification appears? Then you have to go to ‘Objects’ in the Find My app yourself. There you will find the invitation and you can accept that the AirTag will be shared with you.
