Several rumors say that the silicone cases for the iPhone and the straps of your Apple Watch will disappear. Apple plans to replace them with a more responsible choice.

The Apple cases that you can no longer buy are the silicone cases with MagSafe. The bands of the Apple Watch that will disappear include the sport band and solo band. The silicone key rings will also disappear from the AirTag.

Apple’s silicone covers and straps will not suddenly disappear. This is expected to happen slowly. Existing models will no longer receive new colors and when the current stock runs out, the silicone straps and covers will no longer be for sale.

In addition to the silicone accessories, the leather iPhone cases will also disappear. In their place will be new covers made of a different material that is called ‘FineWoven’ in the corridors. A new strap for the Apple Watch will probably also consist of the same material.

Silicone cases Apple

The fact that Apple is discontinuing all leather and silicone accessories appears to be part of a larger change to switch to environmentally friendly materials as much as possible. Current silicone accessories are not made from recycled raw materials. In addition, some components are difficult to recycle due to their high heat resistance.

‘FineWoven’ is expected to be the new material that Apple will use for its silicone cases and straps. The leather accessories will therefore be replaced fairly quickly. In the long run, this will mean the end of silicone accessories. Probably some other materials will be used for this in the future.
