An annoying bug on your iPhone’s home screen can cause the phone to crash completely. A video now reveals how easy that is.
Bug causes problems with the iPhone
A video is making the rounds on social media revealing how easy it is to crash an iPhone. In the video, someone crashes multiple iPhones in a short time due to a bug in the app library. The iPhone freezes completely, and reportedly the only solution is to restart the device. What’s striking about the video is how easy it is to crash the iPhones.

You can find the bug in the app library. For this you have to go to the search bar and tap on it. If you then hold down the space bar and return to the home screen with your other hand, the iPhone will freeze completely. The bug makes it very easy to make iPhones unusable, because after crashing you can (temporarily) no longer open apps or perform other tasks.
Problem with iOS software
Macwelt has tested whether the bug indeed causes iPhones to crash. They performed the same actions to find this out. It turns out that an iPhone is indeed virtually unusable due to the app library bug. The issue was tested on an iPhone 15 running iOS 17.2.1. So it is quite possible that it is a bug in iOS 17.
According to iPhone analytics data, the bug crashes a key part of iOS. That component manages the home screen, screen wallpapers, and app placement. If it gets stuck, you can no longer do anything on the home screen of your iPhone. Fortunately, the problem can be quickly resolved by restarting your phone.
iOS 17.3 is coming
So it seems to be a small bug in the app library that causes iPhones to crash. Now that the problem is well known, it probably won’t be long before Apple comes up with a solution. A new update will soon be coming to your iPhone with iOS 17.3, which will probably solve this bug immediately. In any case, the problem has already been solved in the current test versions of iOS 17.3.

We don’t have to wait much longer for iOS 17.3, as Apple is expected to release the update this month.
