Use AirPlay in hotel rooms and stream media to TVs

Since iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3, sharing content with AirPlay even easier in some hotels. With these software updates, AirPlay also works with certain televisions in hotels, so you can easily enjoy your favorite content on the TV while you travel.

You can automatically connect to the TV and use the wireless protocol. This way you can easily stream movies and series from your iPhone or iPad, as well as music and photos.

AirPlay in hotel rooms

Using AirPlay in hotels and holiday addresses is very easy. Chains can set up their in-room televisions in such a way that a QR code appears on the screen. Using your iPhone or iPad, you can scan the QR code on the screen and the device will automatically log in to the WiFi network and start AirPlay. Then you can start streaming from your device, just like with an Apple TV at home.

Privacy and per TV

This feature was created with privacy and security in mind. The WiFi network is available to all guests, but thanks to the unique QR code per TV, content can only be streamed to that one specific TV. The media from the neighbors next door will not simply appear on your TV screen.

Availability

Anyone who had hoped that all hotel chains will integrate this form of AirPlay will be somewhat disappointed. For now, the feature will be available in some hotels and resorts of the IHG chain. This includes Holiday Inn. This will be followed by several chains.

It will therefore take several years before all TVs in hotels are equipped with this special form of AirPlay.

LG is one of the first suppliers to supply the televisions. All 2023 and 2024 models will support the feature and later also the 2022 versions. These are special TVs for hotels, consumer TVs do not have this option, they already have AirPlay.
