The iPhone 15 Plus has the largest iPhone screen at the moment, but the iPhone 17 has a smaller screen. You need to know this.
iPhone 17 screen is getting smaller
The iPhone 16 has yet to be released, but the first rumors about the iPhone 17 are already emerging. The latest rumor is very striking, because it predicts that the screen of the iPhone 17 Plus will be smaller than the screen of the iPhone 15 Plus. The iPhone 15 Plus now has the largest iPhone screen, together with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Both devices have a 6.7-inch display.

The iPhone 16 Plus will have the same 6.7-inch screen this year, but that will change with the iPhone 17 Plus. This is what the usually reliable Apple analyst Ross Young, an expert in the field of displays, says. He has previously correctly predicted changes to the iPhone, so it is likely that the screen of the iPhone 17 Plus will indeed become smaller. In doing so, Apple is literally trying to make the difference between the regular iPhones and the Pro models even greater.
Bigger differences between iPhones
The displays on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are already getting larger this year. The iPhone 16 Pro will have a 6.3-inch screen, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 6.9-inch display. The latter will therefore be the largest iPhone ever. Apple is not making any changes to the screen dimensions of the regular iPhones this year. So next year, the iPhone 17 Plus will be a bit smaller.
According to Young, the screen of the iPhone 17 Plus will be in a size between the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. The phone may then have a 6.5-inch display. For a larger screen you will soon have to buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max. In this way, Apple is trying to stimulate sales of the most expensive iPhone. That is why the differences are becoming bigger and the Pro models have been getting a completely different chip since last year. It is expected that these differences will only increase in the coming years.
Release will take a while
The screen of the iPhone 17 Plus may be smaller, but the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) may become even larger. According to rumors, these will be the first iPhones without black edges on the side. The Dynamic Island will probably disappear from the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) this year, possibly also from the regular iPhones next year. There is only a black notch left in the screen on the front of the phones for the front camera.

We still have to wait a while for the iPhone 17, because the phone won’t be released until next year. Apple always presents the new iPhone in September, so the release of the iPhone 17 falls in September 2025. By then we will know more about the possibly smaller screen of the iPhone 17 Plus and what other features are coming to the phone.
