Apple has the Release Candidate of iOS 17.5 released! That means the final version of iOS 17.5 is coming to your iPhone soon. This is when you can update.
iOS 17.5 Release Candidate available
The Release Candidate (RC) of iOS 17.5 has been released, which is the last test version before the official release. After the release of the RC, it usually takes less than a week for the real version to arrive. So we don’t have to wait long for the final update, because there is a good chance that you will be able to install iOS 17.5 on your iPhone next week.

It was already clear that iOS 17.5 will not be a major update. As a user, you do get more freedom when installing apps. Since iOS 17.4 are also app stores third parties are allowed, but in the latest iOS version you no longer need an online store at all. Instead, you can also download applications to your iPhone via an internet browser. This all changes in iOS 17.5’s RC.
New features of iOS 17.5
From iOS 17.5 you no longer need an online store to download applications. Before that special rules apply, with which Apple tries to guarantee the safety of users. For example, developers must agree to Apple’s regulations and the website on which the app is offered must be registered with Apple’s App Store program.
In addition, Apple adds a new feature to the iPhone in iOS 17.5. The new ‘Repair State‘ has – as the name suggests – been developed for situations in which your iPhone needs to be repaired. For certain repairs, your smartphone must be sent to Apple. While you still have to disable your location before sending your iPhone, this is no longer the case with iOS 17.5. Instead, you simply activate the new one Repair State.
This is when you can update
Other changes expected in iOS 17.5 include a design change for the Podcasts widget and a new anti-stalking feature in Find My. In any case, we don’t have to wait long for the final update. The Release Candidate usually appears a week before the official release, so we can expect iOS 17.5 next week. Apple will probably release the new update at the beginning of the week.

Therefore, keep a close eye on your iPhone, because iOS 17.5 is likely Monday May 13 or Tuesday May 14 to install. New updates usually appear in the evening, around 7:00 PM Dutch time. Updates will be released simultaneously for the iPad and Apple Watch, namely iPadOS 17.5 and watchOS 10.5. So just be patient, because new software versions are coming soon for your Apple devices!
