iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022: these are the changes

Apple has released a new iPad Air and we will tell you whether it is worth switching from the iPad Air 2022 to the iPad Air 2024.

iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022

The iPad Air 2022 has a 10.9-inch screen, the iPad Air 2024 is available in 11 and 13 inches. The iPads have quite a lot of similarities, but there are of course also some changes in the new models. We have listed them for you.

iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022: these are the changes

These are the most important changes

The body and screen of the iPad Air 2022 and the iPad Air 2024 11 inches are very similar: they are almost the same size (247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm), the same weight (462 g), have the same resolution (1640 x 2360 pixels) and the same brightness (500 nits). The selfie camera has been moved to the long side (which is more useful for video calls, for example), but the camera itself is unchanged.

One difference is that you can put a nano-SIM card in the 2022 version and the 2024 versions only support an eSIM. In addition, the new versions support the Apple Pencil Pro, while the old version has to make do with the Apple Pencil 2. Furthermore, the iPad Air 2022 has an M1 processor and the new iPad Air has an M2 processor. This obviously makes the new iPads a bit faster than their predecessor.

The 13-inch version of the iPad Air 2024 of course has more differences. A larger screen means larger dimensions (280.6 x 214.9 x 6.1 mm), more weight (617 g) and a higher resolution (2048 x 2732 pixels). The 600 nits screen is also a bit brighter and therefore easier to read in direct sunlight.

More storage space and longer battery life

The 2022 version of the iPad Air is available with 64 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM, and with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The amount of RAM (RAM) has remained the same at 8 GB, but in terms of storage space, the new versions have more to offer, namely: 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. The latter two double and quadruple the maximum storage space of the predecessor.

The iPad Air 2022 contains a Li-Ion battery, the new iPad contains a Li-Po battery. That is a change that is not necessarily better or worse. The capacity of the batteries has remained virtually the same, only that of the 13-inch version, at 36.59 Wh, is slightly larger than that of the other two (approximately 28.8 Wh). Because the new M2 processors work more efficiently, there is a good chance that the battery life of the new iPad Air versions will be longer than that of the predecessor.

Conclusion: iPad Air 2024 vs iPad Air 2022

The iPad Air 2024 and the iPad Air 2022 are not that different from each other. If you have a 2022 version, there are only a few features that may make switching worthwhile. If you want a larger screen, you can of course now go for the 13-inch.

Do you find your current iPad Air too slow, does it have too little storage space, or does the battery life leave much to be desired? Then you can solve those annoyances in one go with one of the new versions. And if you want to switch to the new Apple Pencil Pro, you simply have no choice. It only works with both versions of the iPad Air 2024.
