Accidentally hanging up during a phone call on your iPhone is now finally a thing of the past. But you need to change this setting first.
iPhone tip: Accidentally hanging up is now a thing of the past
Maybe you know it: you’re just having a nice chat with your girlfriend or best friend, and the conversation suddenly ends. How? Of course, a bad connection can throw a spanner in the works, or your conversation partner has had enough of talking to you for a while. But sometimes something else is the reason for ending a conversation.
Since iOS 16, you can end a phone call by pressing the side button. That is still the case in iOS 17 and iOS 18. It can be a handy feature, but sometimes you press the button by accident. Fortunately, this option is easy to adjust.
To change the function of the side button, you’ll need to dive into your iPhone’s Settings. To customize the button, follow the steps below.
- Open the ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Accessibility’;
- Scroll down and under ‘Physical and motor’ select ‘Touch’;
- Turn on the slider next to “Prevent ‘Lock to stop call’”.
By enabling this option, you prevent yourself from accidentally hanging up during a phone call on your iPhone. However, ending a phone call with the side button can also be useful. For example, if you are calling in the winter and you are wearing gloves. Then it is often not possible to operate the touchscreen of the iPhone. By then pressing the side button you can still end the call.
