On the iPhone you already have a choice of many different emojis that you can use in your chat messages. But more emojis are always better, right? Especially when you can make them yourself! And now you can, with the Genmoji feature on the iPhone. We will tell you how to do that here.

Create Genmoji on your iPhone

  1. In an app (e.g. Messages), open the emoji keyboard;

  2. Tap the smiley with the plus sign at the top right (right of the text box);

  3. Describe in a few words the emoji you want to make;

  4. The new emoji will appear in the window;

  5. Swipe through the different versions of the new emoji until you find one you like;

  6. Tap ‘Add’ and the new emoji will be added to the emoji overview.

At this time, the function to create a Genmoji is not yet officially available in the Netherlands. You can use the function on your own iPhone if you use an American account and set the iPhone to English with Siri. Apple has indicated that the function will come to the EU from April 2025.

Apple Intelligence features

More features of Apple’s update will be available that month. These include Writing Assistant and the updated version of Siri (with the integration of ChatGPT).

With Writing Aid, texts are rewritten, summarized or changed in tone. Do you use Siri regularly? Then you will notice big changes from April, because Siri will be much smarter. The voice assistant then has standard access to ChatGPT and conducts conversations in a more natural way.

To create the Genmoji (and use the other AI functions), you need an iPhone 15 Pro (€ 974.99), an iPhone 15 Pro Max (€ 1,192.99) or newer. A regular iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus will not have the option to create Genmoji.
