Apple News is finally coming to more countries: will the Netherlands follow?

Apple has announced that the company’s own news service will be expanded to more countries. Is Apple News finally coming to the Netherlands?

Apple News

Apple News was launched in 2019 for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. At Apple’s own news service you see a collection of publications from various news sites, magazines and magazines. Several major newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, Times and Forbes are affiliated with the news service. Dutch titles are virtually impossible to find in Apple News, because the news service was not available at all in the Netherlands and Belgium.

It was possible to use the news service in the Netherlands and Belgium for a longer period of time, because the Apple News widget was available here. That changed a year ago, Apple removed the widget without any announcement. Since then, we have had to do without Apple News in the Netherlands and Belgium. This may no longer be the case soon, as Apple plans to bring the news service to more countries.

Expansion to more countries

Apple News is now only available in Canda, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. According to The Financial Times more countries will be added soon. It is therefore quite possible that Apple News will finally become available in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Financial Times has not made any statements about a release date for Apple News, but it seems likely that Apple News will expand to other countries in 2025.

Apple News is free to use, so you can read unlimited articles for free. That’s not all, because Apple also offers games, podcasts and newsletters through Apple News. The company generates revenue through advertising in Apple News. By showing advertisements between articles, it is possible for Apple to offer the new service for free. This makes reading newspapers and magazines more accessible to a larger audience.

Paid subscription to Apple News

Don’t want to see ads when reading articles? Then you can also opt for Apple News Plus. The paid version of Apple News is already available in countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia. It is expected that it will also be possible to subscribe to the news service in the Netherlands and Belgium, as soon as Apple News is officially available here.

In the United States, users now pay $12.99 per month for Apple News Plus, while in the United Kingdom it is £12.99. It is quite possible that a similar price will be introduced in the Netherlands and Belgium, in which case you will pay 12.99 euros monthly for Apple News Plus. Do you think that amount is too high? Then you can always opt for the unpaid version with advertisements, provided that Apple News actually comes to the Netherlands and Belgium in 2025. Apple will probably announce which countries Apple News will expand to later in 2025.
