iPhone 16th vs Samsung Galaxy A55: What is the best entry -level model?

The iPhone 16th is the newest entry model from Apple and we look at how it performs opposite the entry model of Samsung: the Galaxy A55.

iPhone 16th vs Samsung Galaxy A55

Apple has released the iPhone 16th and that is now the cheapest iPhone of 2025. We compare the new iPhone with the popular entry model of Samsung: the Galaxy A55.

With a suggested retail price of 719 euros, the iPhone 16th is not exactly cheap. In that respect, the Samsung Galaxy A55 with an original suggested retail price of 479 euros was a lot cheaper. You now buy the A55 for 349 euros, so that is even less than half of what you currently have lost for the 16th.

Housing and screen

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is a bit bigger and also slightly heavier than the iPhone 16th. It measures 161.1 x 77.4 x 8.2 mm and weighs 213 g. The new iPhone knows how to limit these values to 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm and 167 g. In addition, the housing of the iPhone is 16th water resistant according to IP68 (up to 6 meters for 30 minutes) and the A55 according to IP67 (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes). No huge differences, it is just what you like. If you let them fall into the dishes, they will probably both survive. In a swimming pool, the iPhone is significantly more likely.

We also see the difference in size when we look at the screens. The Samsung has a super amoled screen of 6.6 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. And that is also an always-on display. The iPhone 16th has a Super Retina XDR OLED screen of 6.1 inches, with a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels. However, an Always-on display is missing here. So you opt for a slightly larger screen with a somewhat lower resolution and always-on, or for a smaller screen with a higher resolution without always-on.

Processor

The processors are always difficult to compare in terms of specifications. A practical test generally says a lot more, but of course we have not had a chance for that. Nevertheless: the Galaxy A55 contains an Octa-Core processor (4x 2.75 GHz and 4x 2.0 GHz) and the iPhone 16th runs on a hexa-core (2x 4.04 GHz and 4x 2.20 GHz).

Working memory and storage space

The iPhone 16th has 8 GB of memory and thus also supports Apple Intelligence when it becomes available in the Netherlands. With the Samsung you have a little more choice, namely 6 GB, 8 GB and 12 GB, although it is partly related to the amount of storage space that you choose.

With the iPhone you can choose 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. The Samsung A55 does not have the latter amount. There you only have 128 GB (with 6 or 8 GB of memory) and 256 GB (with 6, 8 or 12 GB of memory). More storage space and/or memory naturally also means a higher price.

Cameras

There are quite a lot of differences here. The iPhone 16th has only one (wide angle) camera of 48 MP and F/1.6. That is a fusion lens with a 2x zoom option. The A55, on the other hand, has a wide -angle camera of 50 MP and F/1.8, an ultra -wide corner camera of 12 MP and F/2.2, and a macro camera of 5 MP and F/2.4. Most people mainly use the main camera (wide -angle camera). It is better on the iPhone 16th thanks to the larger aperture and the 2x zoom option. The Samsung naturally offers more options with the other two lenses.

At the front, the iPhone 16th has a 12 MP camera with f/1.9 and the Samsung a 32 MP camera with f/2.2. The A55 therefore has a selfie camera with more megapixels, the 16th has one with a larger aperture (which therefore lets more light in).

Duration

This is also difficult to compare without a practical test. So we have to rely on what the manufacturers tell us. Samsung indicates for the A55: Up to 24 hours of internet via WiFi, play up to 28 hours of video and play up to 79 hours of audio. Apple indicates for the 16th: streaming video up to 21 hours, playing video up to 26 hours and playing audio up to 90 hours. So this is what you mainly do with your smartphone.

Conclusion: iPhone 16th vs Samsung Galaxy A55

It is no surprise that the iPhone 16th performs better than the Samsung Galaxy A55, even though the differences on paper sometimes do not seem large. We think you will notice them better in practice. But of course that does not justify the enormous price difference between the two devices. The iPhone 16th is certainly not a bad device, but the price is just too high.
