Indian Motorcycles, part of the Polaris Group, has taken the über fat FTR series from production. Rode? The Americans have also terminated their involvement in the American flat track championship.
Immediately from the beginning: new rules have been introduced in the American flat track Championship for 2025. The engines used in the fastest class, the SuperTwins, must now be based on production engines. This means that Indian can no longer use his factory engines, the FTR750.
Indian then announced that it would withdraw from this championship, while Harley-Davidson continues to participate in this championship with the XG750R, which is based on the commercially unsuccessful Street 750, but can no longer dominate the championship like in the 1970s and 1980s.
The withdrawal of Indian puts an end to an eight -year victory series. From 2017 to ’24, Jared Mees won the American Flat Track Championship on an Indian FTR750 without interruption. With the withdrawal of Indian, Mees also ends his career as an active rider.
Indian has also announced that it would stop the FTR series. This series inspired by flat track Racing is/was Indian’s sportiest series and currently consists of five model variants, all driven by a super -fat V2 with 1203 cc, still tested on the Folembray circuit by our man Ron Huijs in France.
