The iPhone Air has the smallest battery of all iPhone 17 models and therefore also the shortest battery life-it is better than expected.
iPhone Air battery is much better than expected
It is logical that there is no large battery in the thinnest iPhone. Apple has managed to win a little extra space by not building a SIM-slot in it. Nevertheless, the battery of the iPhone Air is the smallest of all iPhones from the 17 series. In an overview it looks like this:
- iPhone 17: 3692 MAH (play video up to 30 hours);
- iPhone Air: 3149 mAh (play video up to 27 hours);
- iPhone 17 Pro: 3998 mAh (play video until 31 hours);
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 4832 MAH (play up to 37 hours of video).
Although there is quite a lot of difference in the capacity of the different batteries, the difference in battery life is not too bad. Only the iPhone 17 Pro Max really stands head and shoulders above it.

Compared to the iPhone 15 Plus and 16 Pro
I now use the iPhone Air a few weeks after I have previously used an iPhone 15 Plus and an iPhone 16 Pro. Those two iPhones have the following battery life:
- iPhone 15 Plus: 4383 mAh (play video up to 26 hours);
- iPhone 16 Pro: 3582 MAH (Play video up to 27 hours).
Compared to the iPhone Air, the iPhone 15 Plus therefore has the most powerful battery and the shortest battery life. The iPhone Air has the least powerful battery and the longest battery life (shared with the iPhone 16 Pro). But the battery life on these three devices is therefore very similar to paper.
For example, the iPhone Air battery performs in practice
My practical experience is something else. The battery life of the iPhone 15 Plus is the best for me. With a charging limit of 80 percent enabled, I easily got through a whole day. Also with intensive use. Charging at night was enough. When I then used the iPhone 16 Pro for a while, it was the battery life that disappointed me the most. It often happened that I did not make it to the end of the day and that the iPhone had to be the charger before. Even when I had set a charging limit of 100 percent.
My expectations for the battery life of the iPhone Air were therefore not too high. But in practice I was indeed pleasantly surprised by it. With this iPhone I just get the end of the day again. I have the Magsafe battery for iPhone Air at my disposal, but so far I have not needed it at all. I have the charging limit at 100 percent. If you set it to 80 percent, then it might be useful to have that Magsafe battery.
