This way you can have your iPhone execute spoken commands

You may think you don’t need voice commands for your iPhone, but it’s easier than you think – here’s how it worked!

This way you can have your iPhone carry out spoken commands

The ‘Voice Commands’ function has been available on your iPhone since iOS 18. Many people think they don’t need spoken commands at all. That is of course correct, because you can also give the same commands via the screen. However, it can be very useful, for example, to turn on the flashlight by pronouncing a word of your own making. That will certainly be faster.

You can use the function to select a task sequence from the Assignments appan accessibility feature, or another iOS feature to a command you choose. Once set up, all you have to do is say that command and your iPhone will execute it immediately. So you don’t have to say ‘Hey Siri’ first, plus you can also perform more complex tasks. For example, you can set your daily alarm clock by just saying “Alarm clock.” We’ll show you how voice commands work:

  1. Open the Settings app;

  2. Tap ‘Accessibility’ and scroll down;

  3. Under ‘SPEECH’, tap ‘Voice commands’;

  4. Tap ‘Configure voice commands’.

Choose the function that you want to activate with a specific word. In our example we choose ‘Flashlight’. Now type the word (or words) you want to use to activate the function. It is logically useful to preferably choose something here that you do not pronounce too often, otherwise your iPhone will repeat the function every time.

Then you say the word you chose three times. This is to ensure that the feature is only activated when you say the word and others cannot abuse it. From now on you can give your iPhone voice commands!
