Google has announced 4 new features for the Google Maps app, including Gemini-based tips. We introduce all four to you.
Google Maps gets new features
According to Google, the four new features of Google Maps will help you save time and be better prepared. These are the new features that Google has announced and those coming soon.
1. Tips from Gemini
When you search for restaurants, hotels or concert halls in Maps, you can scroll down for helpful tips. Maps does research for you, with the help of Gemini. The tips you get are given based on reviews and useful online information. Consider the best way to make a reservation, what the secret menu items are, parking tips and more. You can also tap on the tips for more information. This first of four new Google Maps features is now rolling out in the US. It is not yet known when it will become available in the Netherlands.

2. New ‘Explore’ tab
The ‘Explore’ tab will be refreshed. Swipe up to see trending and popular restaurants, activities and attractions near you. It’s also easier to find curated lists from reliable sources like Lonely Planet, so you can discover your new favorite place. The redesigned Explore tab is one of four new features in Google Maps and will be available worldwide this month.

3. Post reviews under a different name
Google is adding support for sharing reviews without using your real name. You can now choose a nickname and profile photo that will be linked to your reviews. In addition, Google’s built-in protections still check for suspicious and fake reviews. Regardless of the nickname you use in public, reviews are still linked to your Google account behind the scenes. This feature is rolling out globally this month on Android, iOS and desktop.

4. Search for available charging stations
From now on you can see how many charging stations are likely to be available upon arrival, by simply searching for ‘Charging stations’. Google uses AI to analyze the historical and real-time availability of charging stations and predict how many are likely to be free when you get there. This way you can avoid queues and save time. Predictions for the availability of charging stations is therefore also one of the new features of Google Maps and will be launched worldwide next week on Android Auto and cars with Google built-in. It is not yet known when the iOS app will receive this update.
