The iPhone’s camera will get much better (but only this year)

The camera is one of the most important functions of the iPhone and according to a new rumor it will become much better in time.

The iPhone’s camera is getting much better

The iPhone’s camera is getting better every year, but there are several indications that Apple will make a major step forward in the near future. There would be an iPhone camera with no less than 200 megapixels.

In the spring of 2025, Weibo user reported Digital Chat Station already that Apple was working on a 200 MP version of the iPhone camera. No timetable was given at the time. Currently, the iPhone has 48 MP cameras for all rear lenses, including ultra-wide and telephoto. But the main camera was the first to switch from 12 MP to 48 MP.

Probably in 2028

According to a new rumor, the upgrade to 200 megapixels will happen with Apple’s iPhone series before 2028. In a report from Morgan Stanley (via AppleInsider) states that the first 200 MP iPhone camera will be released that year, and will be produced by Samsung.

While Apple will certainly make other camera improvements in this year’s iPhone 18 line and in the 2027 iPhones, it does indeed seem likely that the megapixel count of iPhone cameras will remain the same through 2028. So we have to be patient for a while longer.

Samsung and Apple may be rivals, but they are also partners when it comes to supplying smartphones. For example, Samsung is expected to be the supplier of the new foldable screen of the iPhone Fold in which no fold is anymore visible. Samsung has one at CES 2026 first version of showing.
