iOS 27: These changes are coming to your iPhone
Apple will release the iOS 27 update this year and the first changes are now known. The update will reportedly focus mainly on stability improvements and bug fixes, with some new Apple Intelligence features. We’ve listed everything we know so far about the new iOS 27 features, the update release date, and more.
Release date
Apple will announce iOS 27 including all changes during WWDC in June. This Worldwide Developers Conference is usually held in the first or second week of June. The update will be announced at the event and then released in developer beta testing. Below is a look at when Apple has held WWDC over the past five years:

- 2022: June 6-10
- 2023: June 5-9
- 2024: June 10-14
- 2025: June 9-13
A public beta of iOS 27 will then be released in July 2026 so iPhone users can try out the new features and provide feedback to Apple. If all goes according to plan, iOS 27 will be released to the general public in September. Below are the release dates of the most important iOS updates over the past five years:
- iOS 26: Monday September 15, 2025

- iOS 17: Monday September 18, 2023
- iOS 16: Monday September 12, 2022

Changes in iOS 27
As mentioned, iOS 27’s emphasis is on stability improvements and bug fixes. Bloomberg reports that Apple is mainly focusing on quality and underlying performance with iOS 27. This comes after several years of major iOS updates, including the launch of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18 and the major Liquid Glass redesign of iOS 26. The idea is that Apple is taking a step back after the last few major iOS updates and laying the groundwork for another round of major updates in the future.
New features for the iPhone Fold
One of the changes in iOS 27 is optimizing the software for the first foldable iPhone, which will be launched in September 2026. The iPhone Fold has an inner screen of about 7.8 inches and an outer screen of 5.5 inches. Apple must therefore make changes to iOS 27 to make this new design possible. New features also need to be added to take advantage of the larger screen.
Bloomberg say that Apple will prioritize software features specifically tailored to this new design. Nothing is known yet about what new features Apple will add for the iPhone Fold.

Apple Intelligence
Of course, iOS 27 also has a number of innovations and changes for Apple Intelligence.
Health+
Apple is working on a new AI platform for the Health app. According to Bloomberg Apple wants to ‘imitate’ your real doctor using an AI agent that uses data from the Health app on your iPhone.
The idea is that the Health app already contains a wealth of information about you, especially if you wear an Apple Watch. With this new AI platform, Apple hopes to give users more insight into what all that measurement data means. The updated Health app also gets videos explaining health trends to users.
Search with AI
Apple is also working on an AI-powered web search platform that may ship as part of iOS 27. Internally, this platform is called the Apple World Knowledge Answers platform. It will be a new platform designed to compete with AI search capabilities from companies such as Perplexity.

More Gemini Features
Apple also recently struck a deal with Google to use Gemini models for new Siri and Apple Intelligence features. According to a report from The Information Apple plans to use Gemini models for several iOS 27 features, including:
- Siri’s ability to remember previous conversations.
- Proactive functions that, for example, indicate that you have to leave home to avoid traffic jams, when the Calendar app says that you have to pick someone up from the airport.
New Siri interface
Bloomberg also says that Apple plans to introduce a new visual design for Siri with a visual personality to make it feel lifelike. According to the report, Apple has been testing a Siri design that resembles an animated version of the Finder logo.
Another six months
Of course, it will take another six months before iOS 27 is finally available to everyone. This means that Apple can still remove all kinds of functions and add changes to iOS 27. If you don’t want to miss any of the developments, sign up for our newsletter!
