In 2026, iOS 27 will be the most important update for the iPhone. The new software version brings major changes to the operating system. Apple Intelligence features are rumored to be coming to the Calendar and Health apps for the first time. iOS 27 also introduces more satellite functions, so Apple Maps will soon also work via the satellite connection. Sending and receiving photos in the Messages app is also always possible in iOS 27 thanks to a connection to satellites.
Unfortunately, not every iPhone will be expanded with all the new features of iOS 27. Only iPhones with support for Apple Intelligence will receive a new Calendar and Health app. No new features will be added for other iPhones, because iOS 27 will not come to a number of older devices. These iPhones have (no) support
Apple releases a major software update for the iPhone every year, traditionally eliminating a generation of the smartphone. With iOS 26, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone This means that the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will likely not receive support for the major software release of 2026.
The iPhone 11 series runs on the A13 Bionic chip, which does not work with iOS 27. Unfortunately, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are not the only devices with the A13 Bionic chip. Apple has equipped the iPhone SE 2020 with the same processor, which means that the iPhone will probably not be able to update to iOS 27. In 2026, four iPhones may be dropped with the release of iOS 27, but these devices will remain stuck on the latest version of iOS 26.

Do you have an iPhone 12 or newer? In that case, you will receive new software versions from Apple for at least a year. It is possible that Apple chooses to update the iPhone 11 series after all, but then iOS 27 is the last major software update for these iPhones. The same applies to the iPhone SE 2020, which will receive the last major iOS update in September at the latest. Security updates remain available for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max and the iPhone SE 2020.
We still have to wait a while for iOS 27, because Apple won’t release the update until September. The company will present the new software version in June, that month we will know for sure which iPhones iOS 27 will come to.
