Apple has released the iPhone 17e, a new budget iPhone with nice improvements that is the same price as the iPhone 16e when it came out.
iPhone 17e: an improved cheapest iPhone
Until now, the iPhone 16e was the cheapest new iPhone, but Apple has now released the successor iPhone 17e. The price has remained the same, but a number of cool improvements have been made. We have listed them for you.
A19 chip
For starters, Apple has given the iPhone 17e a faster and more energy-efficient chip than its predecessor, the A19. The iPhone 16e still runs on a (also quite fast) A18 chip. The A19 is the latest iPhone chip, just not in the fastest version. This remains reserved for the iPhone 18 Pro models that we expect in the autumn.
MagSafe
One of the biggest limitations of the iPhone 16e is the lack of MagSafe. Wireless charging is possible with the 16e, but the iPhone does not click magnetically onto the charger. Fortunately, Apple has put an end to this with the new iPhone 17e. You can now finally use accessories and phone holders with MagSafe. In addition, wireless charging is now a lot faster (at 15 W instead of 7.5 W).
Camera has not changed
The 48MP camera on the back of the iPhone 17e is the same as the one on the iPhone 16e. The portrait mode has been improved. This way you can now take a portrait and blur the background afterwards. You can even change the focus point.
No Dynamic Island
Contrary to previous rumors, Apple has not replaced the notch with the Dynamic Island. The front of the iPhone 17e therefore looks almost the same as that of the iPhone 16e.
More colors
The iPhone 16e is only available in Black and White, but with the iPhone 17e you can also choose Soft Pink in addition to these colors.
C1X modem
Finally, the iPhone 17e has the C1X modem, which is the latest generation of modem for mobile data. This is up to 2x faster than the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e.
