Apple has unveiled a new MacBook! The company announced the MacBook Neo in a press release. This is a completely new Mac, which is much cheaper than the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. While these devices run on an M chip, Apple has made a striking choice with the MacBook Neo in 2026. The new laptop runs on the A18 Pro chip, which we previously saw in the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
It is the first time that Apple has brought an iPhone chip to the Mac. This has a number of advantages, because the A18 Pro chip is quite energy efficient. You can watch videos with the laptop for up to 16 hours on a single charge. Do you want to take the MacBook with you on your train journey or to your lectures? Then you don’t have to worry about the battery life of the laptop, despite the compact size of the MacBook.
Striking colours
Apple has opted for a striking casing for the MacBook Neo. The new Mac is available in a range of cheerful colours. You can choose from the colours Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo. That is a big difference with, for example, the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, which are available in more neutral colors. This is the first MacBook in years that is available in a number of cheerful colors. Nice detail: the keyboard of the MacBook Neo comes in the same color.
Furthermore, the MacBook Neo comes with two USB-C ports (1x USB 3 and 1x USB 2) and 256 GB of storage space as standard. So you charge the MacBook with a USB-C cable, the MagSafe port is missing on this entry-level Mac model. The laptop has a 13-inch Liquid Retina screen and is only available in this size. The display has a brightness of 500 nits, which is slightly lower compared to the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro.
Cheapest MacBook in years
With the MacBook Neo you miss features such as MagSafe and Thunderbolt, but that means good news for the price. This is the cheapest MacBook in years, because you can get the MacBook Neo for 699 euros. For this price you get the basic model with 256 GB of storage space and 8 GB of RAM.
