Toyota has a brand new Mirai in the development rooms. In December, the brand will announce all details of the new hydrogen car.
Last year’s Tokyo Motor Show was the stage on which Toyota presented a harbinger of the new Mirai to the world. That second-generation Mirai promised to be a completely different car than the current model. Where the current Mirai with its sharp corners, many folds and Prius-like basic shape is an idiosyncratic and striking appearance, its successor will be a much slicker and larger model. The fuel cell that generates electricity for the electric powertrain has remained. At the beginning of this year, Toyota showed a production-ready version, but extensive technical data kept Toyota under wraps. That will finally change in December.
On a specially created website, Toyota announces via an image that it will present the new Mirai in December. Then all technical data will probably also be released. We already know that the model will be based on the modular TNGA base. Toyota previously indicated that the range of the Mirai ‘concept’ shown last year is about thirty kilometers above that of the current model. For this Toyota gives a range of 500 kilometers, so count on a range of about 650 kilometers. Another big difference from the current type: the new Mirai is not front, but rear-wheel drive.
