The electric pick-up is really coming and the first serious copy could just be from Ford. The electric Ford F-150 has been spotted again and should go into production next year.
Ford is making absolutely no secret that an electric version of the very popular Ford F-150 is on the way. The brand has even revealed some details and has already put a copy to work. However, it was still a car with the appearance of the regular F-150. In practice, the Ford F-150 EV will be recognizable as such, although little of it can be seen in these spy images.
Basically, Ford’s big EV is just an F-150, including the square body, long cab and of course the cargo box. The differences are mainly in the different front facade, which is still firmly wrapped in this car. Count on a partially closed grille and perhaps unique lighting units. The streamlined wheels are also unique and undoubtedly make an unsuccessful attempt to divert the wind from the gigantic, square body of the F-150 itself.
There is a real battle going on over who will be the first to enter the US market with an electric pick-up. Tesla has his cyber truck, General Motors the GMC Hummer and then there is Rivian. In that list, the fairly down-to-earth Ford is actually the least exciting news, but that does not mean that the electric F-150 will not be an impressive thing. In addition, Ford has the best credentials when it comes to success with American truck buyers, as the F-150 has been the best-selling ‘car’ in the US since time immemorial.
Incidentally, this seems like news that is pretty irrelevant for the Netherlands, but that may be better than expected. American pick-ups are surprisingly popular here, partly thanks to the efforts of all kinds of gray import companies.
Whether that will also apply to the electric variant remains to be seen, because the pick-up owes its popularity here, of course, mainly to the fact that the gray license plate means that there is no BPM and little motor vehicle tax for business buyers. However, the electric pick-up makes those benefits available to everyone and adds the substantial benefit of much lower fuel costs.
