E-mail, take photos, process texts, send messages and more: Google has created an app for almost everything you do on your iPhone. A good tasks app was always missing from this list, but that is finally changing with Tasks.
Google Tasks available now
Google is today launching a completely new design for Gmail. This includes a number of new features, including Google Tasks. Today, he immediately switches to iOS and Android with its own app.
Google has kept the Tasks app as simple as possible. That means a lot of white areas on your screen, so that there is enough space for your to-do list. You can create a new task by pressing a large blue button, which you can immediately link to Google Calendar.

To prevent your task list from turning into chaos, you can divide each task into a list. For example, create a special list for your weekly shopping list, which is then separate from the general to-do list.
Since Google Tasks works closely with Google Calendar and Gmail, the app works especially well if you’re already using those two services. This makes it easy to switch between the three different services and they can mutually reinforce each other. For example, you can place a task directly from your mailbox in Google Tasks via the new Gmail. You can quickly switch between different Google accounts via the menu at the bottom of the screen. Handy if, for example, you have different accounts for work and private life.
Google Tasks itself has a long list
This makes Tasks a simple but very accessible task app, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. For example, you can now only add a day on which the task must be completed, and not a specific time. You can’t even add a date for subtasks, which makes it more difficult to use Tasks for large-scale tasks that take several days to complete. Also, the options to organize and archive your tasks are still limited, and we would like to see an option to share and sync your task list with someone else.
In that respect, Google Tasks is a promising start, but Google’s to-do list itself is still long enough to make Tasks a task app that rises above competitors like Things 3.
