In 2013, the Mercedes-Benz E-class, then still of the W212 generation, was substantially renewed all around. In addition to a completely new front, there were even new folds in the flanks, making this facelift without doubt one of the most extensive. Even with the current W213 generation, they did not work childishly in Stuttgart.
At a time when a slightly different layout of the light units was already presented as a facelift, the Mercedes E-class was simply given a completely new façade. Although the difference in style is undeniably smaller than in the aforementioned facelift of 2013, Mercedes’s medium-sized sedan now also gets new headlights, a new hood and a new front bumper. The grille is also new, with the Avantgarde version with the big star becoming the new standard. Even without that measure, the more traditional arrangement with the star on the hood was already the most exclusive, but that does not prevent your scribe from using the, in his eyes, more beautiful, classic arrangement for the well-known sliding plate.
Regardless of the layout, it is striking that the widest point of the grille is placed a lot lower than before. With the new front, the E clearly distances itself from the C-class and S-class, where the differences between the three were, until recently, minimal. This also applies to the rear, where the sedan version of the E now has wide, flat light units in the style of the Estate. The interior is introduced with an optional six-spoke (!) Steering wheel and a new screen arrangement, with digital equipment now also being the new standard in the E.
