The iPhone 13 has finally been presented and so it’s time for a look back. Which rumors about the device were true, and which claims were completely wrong? These iPhone 13 rumors were wrong.
None of these iPhone 13 rumors were true
In front of iPhoned the launch of the new iPhones is the highlight of the year. We have been preparing for months and keep a close eye on all the news, so that we know roughly what to expect. We try to select messages well for credibility, but rumors are not rumours for nothing.
After we already did a major investigation last year into the rumors surrounding the iPhone 12, the new device at the time, it is time for a brief look back this time as well. Which iPhone 13 rumors, with today’s knowledge, turn out to be completely wrong? Time for an overview.
1. Touch ID in screen
For a long time, it was rumored that the iPhone 13 would get Touch ID. This time, the fingerprint scanner would not be in a physical button, as with the iPhone SE, but would be incorporated into the display. In that situation, you would unlock the device by placing your finger on the screen. Your fingerprint is then recognized and the screen unlocks.
Not so. The iPhone 13 has no Touch ID at all. Face ID, facial recognition, is of course present. So you unlock the device by looking at the front camera. If your face is recognized, the phone’s lock will go off.
Will the iPhone ever get Touch ID ‘behind’ the screen? According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo we have to wait until at least 2023 for this. Also next year, when the iPhone 14 comes out, we do not expect a ‘under the skin’ fingerprint scanner.

2. Always-on screen
Speaking of the screen: several rumors claimed that the iPhone 13 would have a so-called always-on display. As the name suggests, such a screen never goes out completely.
Instead, the display is in a kind of sleep mode, so that you can read incoming messages and the time, for example, without having to unlock the device.
This rumor was not very strange, because the Apple Watch has had an always-on screen for years. However, it did not happen with the iPhone 13. It is not yet clear whether and when this is planned.
3. An orange iPhone 13
Do you know the story of the orange iPhone 13? We neither. Several insiders claimed that the new iPhone would appear in all kinds of fresh colors, but it did not come from an iPhone 13 in orange. However, the device is available in pink, blue and Starlight (white/silver).
4. Special camera case for iPhone 13
The vaguest iPhone 13 rumor had nothing to do with the device itself, but with the available accessories. Twitter user onlytruejosh was sure that Apple was going to release a special camera cover for the new device.
This case would not only protect your brand new iPhone, but also add a function: extending the telephoto lens. According to the Twitterer, you could zoom in further while filming and photographing – as long as your iPhone 13 is in the special camera case.
Now there is a (small) chance that Apple will still bring this accessory on the market, but we would not dare to bet money on it. You can read why we see little in this rumor in the analysis below.
