The first reviews of the iPhone 13 Pro have arrived! The response to the new features has been mostly positive. A number of reviewers do note that the macro mode does not work manually. Fortunately, that is about to change.
Apple is going to adjust macro mode of iPhone 13 Pro
The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have a new macro mode. The results of this mode are very good at first glance. However, users cannot turn macro mode on or off themselves. This is done automatically, based on the distance between the lens and the subject to be photographed.
This is not always desirable. Shooting a subject up close results in a natural depth of field. This is unfortunately lost on the new iPhones. The smartphones automatically switch to the wide-angle lens in such situations; Macro mode only works with the wide-angle lens.
Apple promises that it will soon release a software update for the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max to change this. That leaves famous YouTuber Marques Brownlee know through his Twitter channel. The Cupertino company shows that it listens to the opinions of users.
“A future software update to be available this fall will add a new camera setup. This setting makes it possible to disable automatic switching to macro mode.” Apple has not yet announced when we will see the update.
More about the iPhone 13 Pro’s cameras
Macro mode is not the only new camera feature of the iPhone 13 Pro phones. Apple has overloaded the smartphones with camera upgrades. For example, there is the film mode, in which videos get a cinematic depth of field effect. The function is somewhat similar to the existing portrait mode, but for videos.
There is also support for ProRes videos. ProRes is a format that is also used in the film industry. It allows users to customize much more in post production. The Pro iPhones more than live up to their Pro name this year.
Finally, all the lenses on the new iPhones let in more light. This allows you to still take sharp photos in low light. In combination with a tripod it is even possible to capture the stars.
Apple will ship the first iPhone 13 models on Friday, September 24. Are you curious about our opinion about the new smartphones from Apple? Please sign up for our daily/weekly newsletter. In addition, download the free iphoned app and keep an eye on our website.
