If you forget the password of a site or service, you can no longer log in. How can this be solved?
Passwords everywhere
Passwords and accounts. You can’t get around it online. Every service on the internet uses them to log in. Its usefulness is clear. But many users struggle with remembering and separating all those passwords. So yes, sometimes you forget one. But then what?
recover passwords
It is possible to reset the password for all accounts. Where by ‘recover’ is meant that you can set a new password, without having to know the old one.
How to recover a password
Accounts are password protected to ensure only the owner has access. So it makes sense that a password cannot be recovered just like that. Usually, password recovery is performed via email. An account is (usually) linked to an email address. Anyone who requests password recovery will receive an email to the email address provided. A new password can be set via a link in that email. This recovery link is usually only valid for a short time.
Some services protect password recovery in a different way. For example, a code is sent via text message. This is of course only possible if you have provided a telephone number with your account in advance.
Another recovery option is via so-called security questions. This works as follows: when creating an account, a few (random) questions are asked. For example, the name of the first pet, favorite movie or place of birth. The user fills in the answers. If password recovery is required, the answers to these questions must first be entered.
