Xiaomi has unveiled the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in China. The Xiaomi 12S series is the first result of the collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica, so they are the first Xiaomi phones with a Leica camera.
Xiaomi 12S Series
The Xiaomi 12S series consists of the Xiaomi 12S, the Xiaomi 12S Pro and the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The first is a small flagship, the second is larger with high-end specifications and the Ultra variant is the top model. With this copy, Xiaomi tries to pull out all the stops in terms of internal power and camera capabilities.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes with a 6.73 inch AMOLED screen. It is an LTPO panel with a refresh rate up to 120Hz. The chipset is Qualcomms Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and in addition there is 8 GB or 12 GB RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB storage. We also see a 4860 mAh battery that supports 67 W fast charging, but also 50 W wireless charging and reverse charging. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra also supports adaptive charging to avoid overcharging the battery, increasing the number of charge cycles by 25%.
The main camera is a 50 MP one with optical image stabilization. It concerns the Sony IMX 989. That is a 1-inch camera sensor with a larger surface area than all other cameras that are now used in premium smartphones. Such a larger sensor surface comes with many advantages. There is also a 50 MP wide-angle camera and a 48 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
The Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro come with slightly different camera specs and the 12S has the smallest screen. All phones in the 12S series run on Android 12, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 skin over it.
Prices and availability
Unfortunately, it is not known what the phones in the Xiaomi 12S series will cost. More information on local launches and pricing will follow, Xiaomi said. Converted, the prices are 570 to 860 euros.
