Polestar, Volvo’s sports brand is finally moving to the SUV. As for the brand’s two sedans, the problem remains the same: their marketing in France is blocked by Citroën.
His arrival had already been known for months, but his technical sheet remained a mystery. Now, the Polestar 3 is not only official, but it no longer has any secrets. Except maybe one: a possible date of marketing in France. The large SUV from Volvo’s sports brand is a juggernaut almost 5 meters long (4.90 precisely), with a record wheelbase of 2.99 meters. If it were to be compared to a thermal, it is undoubtedly its cousin at Volvo, the XC90 which would be the most appropriate. Can this particularly imposing electric vehicle, Polestar’s first SUV, claim the sporty side dear to the Geely group brand?
This is what Polestar wants to believe, which revealed the technical sheet of the beast. The Polestar 3 will be available in two trim levels. The basic version is based on a 489 hp engine and displays a torque of 840 Nm. The “Performance” version will scratch a little extra power with its 519 hp engine and its torque of 910 Nm. Given the high weight of the SUV, the 0 to 100 km/h in this version is “only” 4.7 seconds. On the battery side, on the other hand, there is no difference between the two models, both carrying a huge block of 111 kWh. As a result, the range of Polestar’s SUV exceeds 600 km. As for the charging part, it peaks at 11 kW in alternating current and can reach 250 kW in fast DC charging.
No Polestar 3, but an electric XC90 soon?
As for the two other Polestar models (1 and 2 are sedans), the concern is always the same for Volvo’s sister brand: it has no citizenship in France. Indeed, Citroën accuses the brand of the Geely group of having shamefully copied its logo. The French brand has obtained a ban on the marketing of Polestar in France and is currently trying to extend the decision to the whole of Europe.
If it will be unlikely to come across a Polestar 3 on French roads (unless a Dutch tourist decides to reach the Mediterranean coast with his electric SUV), the arrival of this model in the catalog can also be perceived as a good news for the French. Indeed, a good part of the technical sheet of the Polestar 3 should be common with… the electric Volvo XC90, which will be well marketed in France.
