Add passwords to Chrome password manager

Add passwords to Chrome password manager

The built-in Google Chrome password manager has a new feature these days. You can add passwords to your online account yourself. Then you don’t have to wait for the browser to ask to do that for you.

The Google Chrome browser on Android recently got an update, which brings a number of changes. One of the most important changes is the option that allows you to add a password for an online account yourself.

So you don’t have to wait for Chrome to ask you, through a pop-up in the corner (on your computer) or at the bottom of the screen (your smartphone or tablet). This feature was already available for desktop users, but is now also coming to other platforms.

Manually add passwords to Chrome

If you want to add a password to Chrome yourself, how exactly do you proceed? We will briefly take you through the steps that you have to go through. Don’t worry: this is not a complicated process. In this step-by-step plan, we assume that you use the Chrome browser and that you are logged in with your Google profile.

  • Open the Chrome browser and tap your . in the top right corner profile picture
  • Select the icon of a keywhich gives you access to your passwords
  • You should see on the left, in a blue field, now Autofill stand; if that option is not blue, you have to click on it again
  • You will now see a number of headings; the cup we are looking for is Saved passwords
  • Right above that line you will see a button called To add
  • Press To add and fill in the information that Chrome needs
  • It’s about the website (the URL of the website), your user name (this can be an email address or profile name) and of course your password
  • Then press Save to complete the process

While we are here…

The password will then appear in the list of already saved passwords that you have added over the years. While you’re here, we can do a few other things, by the way.

For example, press Check passwords and wait for Chrome to check all your passwords. Not only do you get to see how many weak passwords you have, you can also see which passwords may be in the hands of malicious parties.

Change the passwords by going to the website of the profile in question and clicking Forgot your password to push. You can then manually adjust the data in Chrome or wait for Chrome to ask if it should update the data of an existing profile.
