AirDrop between iPhone and Android is now available (but for how long?)

It is now possible to send files from your iPhone to an Android device using AirDrop. But maybe Apple will put a stop to this.

AirDrop between iPhone and Android is now available (but for how long?)

Sending photos and other files is always very easy between two iPhones. But if one of your friends has an Android device, it is often a lot more difficult. Then you usually just use a chat app to forward the file.

AirDrop between iPhone and Android is now available (but for how long?)

But recently that is no longer necessary. At least, not if you have a Google Pixel 10 Android device. You can then use the new Quick Share feature to share files with iPhones (and vice versa). To be precise, AirDrop works between the iPhone and Android on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Fold.

In addition, AirDrop only works between an iPhone and Android device if you first set the setting to ‘Everyone for 10 minutes’. You do this on the iPhone as follows:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
  • Go to ‘General > AirDrop’;
  • Select the ‘Everyone for 10 minutes’ option.

Then, if someone sends you a file from an Android device, it will look exactly the same as from an iPhone. To receive files on the Pixel 10, you must enable the ‘Everyone for 10 minutes’ option in Quick Share. You do this via ‘Settings > Quick Share > Who can share with you’.

AirDrop between Android and iPhone: for how long?

The function was not created in collaboration with Apple. Google says it uses its own implementation of AirDrop. It is still unclear what Apple’s position is on this. Apple has historically not supported third-party solutions that enable iPhone and Android devices to work together.

This is AirDrop

AirDrop is without a doubt the easiest way to share files with each other, whether they are photos, documents, interesting podcasts or phone numbers. AirDrop can send almost all types of files and the feature works with all Apple devices. For example, you can send a phone number from your iPhone to Mac and vice versa.
