Apple announces AirPods 4
A new generation of AirPods has been presented! Apple has released the AirPods 4 in two versions, one with noise cancellation and one without. In both versions, Apple has adjusted the design of the charging case. The case is more than 10 percent smaller than that of the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro (2). Fortunately, you don’t see this in the charging time of the earbuds, because that is still just as fast.
The new design of the charging case is immediately noticeable, but that does not apply to the new button on the AirPods 4. Apple has added a hidden button to the box, which was not there on previous generations of AirPods. The new button is placed on the inside of the charging case. You cannot physically press the button, instead the button works with vibration motors.
AirPods 4 have new button
In the previous generations of the AirPods we did see a physical button. This is located on the back of the charging case and is intended to pair the earphones with your iPhone, iPad or Mac. With the AirPods 4, the hidden button works similarly, but with haptic feedback. It is also possible to perform multiple actions with the new button. Which function you activate depends on how often and how long you press the button.
To pair the AirPods 4 with another (Apple) device, you have to press the button twice. Do you want to reset the earphones to factory settings? This happens when you tap the button three times. Apple has not yet provided any clarity about this new button, according to rumors it is also possible to go back to factory settings by holding the button down for a longer period of time.
Release of the new AirPods
In addition to the new button, the light on the AirPods 4 charging case has also changed. Where you can clearly see a notch for the light on the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro (2), this is not the case with the new AirPods. There, the light only lights up when you open the case. Is the charging case closed? Then you no longer notice that there is a light on the front of the box.
