The regular AirPods will receive an upgrade this year, but the AirPods Pro 2 have been pushed back to 2022. Apple would like to introduce “multiple innovative functions” with it.
AirPods Pro 2 coming in 2022
So says Ming-Chi Kuo, the trusted Apple analyst in a note that MacRumors got hold of. Based on his (anonymous) sources, the analyst releases new information about the second generation AirPods Pro.
Kuo states that the new wireless earbuds will appear in the course of next year. The second edition differs from its predecessor with ‘innovative features’. Kuo is referring to new health sensors with which your fitness can be better registered.
Earlier rumors have surfaced that Apple would like to add a heart rate monitor to the AirPods. The inside of your ear is an excellent place to take these measurements, and many people use AirPods while exercising. That way, measurements can be taken continuously during your workout.
Motion sensors are also being added, Bloomberg recently wrote. The design would also be adjusted, with smaller earplugs without stems sticking out of your ears.
2022 will be a big year for AirPods Pro
Because the new AirPods Pro are moving forward for a year, Kuo is lowering its expectation for the number of AirPods sold in 2021. The analyst now predicts that between 70 and 75 million sets of AirPods will be sold, instead of 75 to 85 million. Once the new AirPods Pro hit stores, Kuo expects to sell more than 100 million sets by 2022.
