Alpine F1 team shows strikingly colored new car

Alpine has pulled the curtain on its new Formula 1 car. Or rather, two new cars. The French team is entering with a different color scheme than last year and is again switching to a more traditional color scheme after two Grands Prix.

Alpine’s Formula 1 team has presented its new Formula 1 car for the 2022 season. The presentation was in part dominated by the arrival of a new main sponsor: BWT. After years at Force India/Racing Point and later at Aston Martin, that has now become the main sponsor of Alpine and that is clearly visible in the new car. The signature BWT pink really stands out. Alpine has interesting news for those who already think that looks special. For the first two Grands Prix of the new season (Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, March 20 and 27), the team even drives an almost completely pink car, which you can see below.

With the design of the car, the French team has chosen a bit of a middle ground between two approaches that we have seen before. The A522 has pretty chunky sidepods with cooling slots in them (somewhat similar to Aston Martin and Ferrari), but tapers a bit more towards the rear than those cars. It is also striking that, just like last year, the top of the car looks quite large. This probably has to do with an unconventional design of the cooling of the Renault 1.6 V6 that is in it. Whether it was a good choice, drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon may discover for the first time this week. Wednesday will be the first of three consecutive winter testing days in Barcelona.
