Alpine may be chasing Cupra

Even more Alpine news. Renault CEO Luca de Meo clearly sees an important role for the Renault subsidiary brand. It looks like Alpine will play a similar role for Renault as Cupra for Seat.

De Meo is therefore not exactly unknown. At the time, as Seat CEO, he was responsible for the launch of Cupra as a sporty brand alongside Seat. He has a similar plan with Alpine, he tells the British AutoExpress. He does emphasize that some things must remain credible. “I’m not going to do that with a Kangoo or Espace, but with things that fit the placement of the brand,” said the current Renault CEO. “As I’ve done with Cupra, I’m going to find a point of contact between the Alpine brand and some Renault models.”

Alpine Zoe?

Alpine will therefore play an important role. De Meo said earlier that he uses Ferrari and Porsche as frames of reference for Alpine’s strategy. With motorsport activities he hopes to increase the brand value (and thus the margin per car) and of the A110 there must be several models next to each other. Furthermore, it now seems that Alpine will replace Renault’s RS label. That means that the public will probably soon be introduced to an Alpine Clio or even an Alpine Zoe.

Exactly what Alpine has in store should become clear in the coming months. The fact that De Meo is open to many new things with Alpine, he does not exactly hide. “We need to stop the nostalgia surrounding Alpine and use the brand as an opportunity for the future,” he said. “One of the missions we can give Alpine is to give electric cars more excitement and emotion. We have some ideas.”
