Apple discontinued these 4 products in 2024 (but one is coming back)

Apple stopped making four different products this year, and that’s a shame. But one product is also coming back.

When products have been around for a while, there comes a time when Apple stops production. This year, Apple has discontinued no fewer than four different products. It is striking that one of these products returns in a new version.

The products that Apple has discontinued this year are the iPad 9, the SuperDrive, the FineWoven cases for the iPhone and the Powerbeats Pro earbuds. Apple has actually discontinued even more products, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and the Apple Watch Series 9, but these are previous generation models that Apple discontinues every year.

iPad 9 (2021)

Apple stopped production of the 2021 iPad on the same day that the new iPad Pro and the iPad Air were released this year. Do you want an affordable iPad? Then you should now look for the iPad 2022 (€ 389).

SuperDrive

This device is a bit older. The SuperDrive was an external CD/DVD drive and was released along with the first MacBook Air that did not have a CD/DVD drive. The device is now no longer available for purchase from Apple in almost every country and it is unknown whether it will ever return. The SuperDrive is still available online here and there, but that could change quickly.

FineWoven covers

The FineWoven cases do not seem to have become the success that Apple had in mind. There are many complaints on the internet about the new covers that were introduced with the iPhone 15.

There are no longer FineWoven cases for sale for the iPhone 16. So it looks like this is also one of the Apple products that Apple has discontinued.

Powerbeats Pro

Apple quietly discontinued the Powerbeats Pro this month. These were earplugs aimed at athletes. It was striking that these earplugs had a kind of hook with which you could ‘hang’ them around your ear. This made them stay in place better.

However, a video on X shows that Apple will release new Powerbeats Pro 2. The earphones resemble the previous version, but a bit thinner. Rumors also say that the Powerbeats Pro 2 will be able to measure your heart rate while exercising, have active noise cancellation, support spatial audio and adaptive audio.
