Another update is coming for your iPhone! Apple is working on iOS 17.3.1, which fixes security issues in iOS 17.3. No new features will come to your iPhone with the interim update. That does not make the new iOS version any less important, because Apple only releases interim updates in case of major security problems. That now seems to be the case, so we recommend installing iOS 17.3.1 immediately after release.

It is not (yet) clear which security problems are implemented with the update. As far as we know, no bugs or other major issues have surfaced in iOS 17.3. Apple is also not expected to announce this, as the company is trying to prevent malicious parties from taking advantage of the problems with the software. We don’t have to wait long for the update, because Apple will soon release iOS 17.3.1.
This is when you can update
It is expected that you will be able to install the new software version on your iPhone next week. Apple released iOS 16.3.1 last year on February 13, in 2022 iOS 15.3.1 was released on February 10. Typically, Apple sticks to roughly the same timeline when releasing updates. We can therefore probably download and install Apple’s iOS 17.3.1 next week.
New updates for your iPhone usually appear on Monday or Tuesday evenings. That means you probably have iOS 17.3.1 February 12 or 13 can put on your iPhone. Apple always releases the updates in the evening, around 7 p.m. Therefore, keep a close eye on your iPhone next week, because there is a good chance that a new software update will be available then.
Big changes in iOS 17.4
With iOS 17.3.1, Apple mainly implements important bug fixes. We will have to wait a little longer for new features, because iOS 17.4 will be released next month. That will be a major update for your iPhone, with important changes for the App Store and the NFC chip in your phone. From next month it will be possible to install apps that are not in the App Store.

This is the result of European legislation, which states that Apple must open the App Store and the NFC chip to third parties. Apple must become less powerful and a fair competitive position must be created for smaller developers. That is why, in addition to Apple Pay, new payment options are added in iOS 17.4.
