According to rumors, the MacBook will get a new feature that has been missing from Apple’s laptop for years. This is going to change!
‘Apple is working on a MacBook with a 5G chip’
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to give the MacBook 5G. You still have to be patient, because according to rumors, Apple is currently only looking at the possibility. A MacBook with a cellular option would only be available sometime around 2026.

Apple will first launch a homemade 5G chip at the beginning of 2025. They have been developing this chip for years. According to rumors, the chip will first appear in the iPhone SE, the next budget iPad and the iPhone 17 Air. The new 5G chip will only come to the Pro models later.
The new 5G chip will then come to more iPhones and iPads, followed by the MacBook. This means that you can connect to 5G mobile internet on the MacBook, similar to what you do with an iPhone or iPad. So you no longer need a WiFi connection or hotspot.

The first version of the chip probably does not yet reach maximum speed. But the next generation should have support for the faster mmWave technology. In the third generation, the chip should be faster than Qualcomm’s current chip, with better performance and support for AI functions.
How long exactly it will take remains to be seen. Gurman said last year that Macs with 5G chips (made by Apple) won’t be introduced until sometime in 2028. That would mean we would have to wait a little longer.
Yet rumors of a MacBook with 5G have been going around for years. Even in 2008 there was already talk of a MacBook with mobile internet. Apple then considered putting a modem in the MacBook Air. But Apple ultimately did not do that, because the chip would take up too much space.
