Apple is reportedly working on a range of new monitors that have dedicated hardware. iPhoned tells you more about these new monitors.
Apple is working on several new monitors
Earlier this year, Apple released a new monitor with the Apple Studio Display. The company seems to have got the hang of this, because Apple is reportedly working on a series of new monitors for the Mac and iPad. That is why it is expected that a successor to the Pro Display XDR will finally arrive next year.
Currently only Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR
Earlier this year, Apple announced a new monitor: the Studio Display. In recent years, Apple only had the 32-inch Pro Display XDR in its range, an advanced mini-LED screen with a price tag of no less than 5499 euros. With the Studio Display, the smaller and cheaper brother was added this year.
This monitor has a screen size of 27 inches, a 5K resolution and a high brightness of 600 nits – but no mini LED. In terms of connections, you have a port at the back for the power supply, and four USB-C ports (one of which is Thunderbolt 4) to which you can connect the Mac Studio or MacBook.
Pro Display XDR will get a successor
The range of Apple monitors will therefore probably be expanded in the coming year. The new Pro Display XDR will have a 7K resolution and a 32 or 36-inch screen. This new Pro Display could be released with the new Mac Pro, but according to the latest rumors, Apple is waiting until after the launch of the Mac Pro. The computer is already more in development than the monitor.
Because there is talk of a series of new monitors, it is quite possible that a cheaper monitor will also be released by Apple. The monitors have so far been on the pricey side, which can be changed with a cheaper entry-level model next year.
All new Apple monitors feature Apple Silicon
Apple plans to equip all new monitors with Apple Silicon, Apple’s own chip. This should make the production of the chip on which the Apple monitor runs a lot more reliable. Because Apple produces the chip completely itself, it fits perfectly with Apple’s software and is well protected.
It’s good news that the new monitors will run on Apple Silicon, because that most likely means they will get special features. Think of a built-in webcam that, thanks to the image processor of the Apple chip, makes particularly sharp recordings and can apply special effects such as Midpoint (Center Stage).

When can we expect the new monitors?
Little is known about the period in which we can expect the new monitors with Apple Silicon. The new monitors are expected to be announced after the introduction of the new Mac Pro, which may be introduced in June next year. The new monitors will probably not follow until October. So it remains to wait for the new Apple monitors with Apple Silicon.
