According to rumors, Apple no longer comes with a new iPhone SE, but with an iPhone 16th. You need to know this.
Apple may stop with iPhone SE
We do expect that Apple will soon be a new device, even if that may no longer be an iPhone SE. In any case, we know that the device is based on the design of the iPhone 14. It therefore gets a notch, Face ID and a 6.1-inch OLED display. The iPhone runs on an A18 chip, which means that Apple intelligence is supported. There is also a USB-C connection, a single 48 MP camera and there is a 5G modem for the first time that Apple itself has produced.
This makes it the largest upgrade to date. Since the 2nd generation from 2020, Apple has not changed anything in the design of the iPhone SE. The iPhone SE 2022 looks the same, but has an A15 Bionic chip and 5G support. The new device will therefore be the biggest renewal in five years.
The price of the new device
Apple launched the iPhone SE 2022 with a starting price of 529 euros. Yet it is unlikely that the new version will be available for the same price. The iPhone 14 currently costs € 617.99 and the iPhone 15 € 719. A newer iPhone with parts of these two devices and an even newer chip cannot actually become cheaper.
The modem of Qualcomm and the OLEDs of Samsung that Apple uses so far are among the most expensive parts of the iPhone. By using a self-manufactured 5G modem and OLEDs from BOE and LG, Apple can save a lot of costs and the new iPhone SE may still offer cheaper. But the question remains whether that will actually happen.
We expect a price of just over 600 euros
If the new iPhone did indeed cost 529 euros, then that is about 400 euros less than what you pay for the iPhone 16 (969 euros). For that additional price you really only get a Dynamic Island, an action button and an ultrag whyfy camera. That doesn’t seem really worth it.
If Apple opts for a price of, for example, 649 euros, that is a lot for an iPhone SE. At the same time, it is relatively little for a renewed iPhone 14. Moreover, Apple emphasizes that the iPhone 15 is outdated despite the slightly higher price, because there is no support for it Apple Intelligence. What the price will actually be, remains to be seen.
