The Apple TV will receive an enormous update in 2025, because Apple is working on major changes for TVOS 19. We already know this about the update.
TVOS 19
There will be a major update to the Apple TV this year! Next month, Apple will announce TVOS 19. That happens on the WWDC 2025, that on Monday 9 June starts. That week, Apple presents the largest software updates of the year, including iOS 19 and TVOS 19. It was quiet for a long time, but there is slowly more clear about the next software version for the Apple TV.
According to the usually reliable Apple connoisseur Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new interface for TVOS. The operating system for the Apple TV appeared in 2015 and has not received any renewed design since then. This is how TVOS 19 changes, because Apple adjusts the interface for the first time in ten years. It is expected that TVOS will take over many elements of Visionos this year, just like iOS, iPados and macOS.
New interface
It was already known that iOS, iPados and macOS take over many parts of Visionos. That is the operating system developed for the Apple Vision Pro, the first spatial computer from Apple. In Visionos, Apple uses much more transparent frameworks, which seem like they have been made of glass. These frameworks have rounded corners and more depth effects. We probably see the same transparent frameworks at the Apple TV with TVOS 19.
Apple’s codename for iOS 19 confirms that we will see the elements of Visionos in more operating systems. According to Gurman, the code name is ‘Solarium’, which stands for a glass space where a lot of sunlight enters. We may also see the menu bar from Visionos in TVOS 19 on Apple TV. This menu bar appears with every app and gives access to certain functions. That should make it easier to navigate in and between applications on the Apple TV.
Release of TVOS 19
With the new design, iOS, iPados, macOS, Visionos and TVOS will soon be more alike. Apple tries to install more structure and similarities between the operating systems. It is still unclear which new functions of TVOS 19 brings even more to the Apple TV. You will probably get new screensavers that you can use as a background with the Apple TV. More new features will follow later this year, when the Apple TV 2025 is announced.
The Apple TV 2025 is reportedly only this fall, but TVOS 19 is announced much earlier. Next month, Apple will unveil the big update for the Apple TV.
