Apple Vision Pro with glasses – that’s how much the insert lenses cost

Now that the Apple Vision Pro is almost in stores, all kinds of information is coming out. We already knew that you need insert lenses with glasses to be able to use the Vision Pro. Fortunately, these are cheaper than expected.

The time has come on February 2, 2024, when the Apple Vision Pro will finally be available in stores. Only in the US for the time being, of course, but… iPhoned we are optimistic that the glasses will come to Europe this year. But even though the release is now fairly quick, there are still a lot of open questions surrounding Apple’s VR/AR glasses.

One of the most important: how will glasses wearers use the Vision Pro? Because even though the image is only a few millimeters away from your eyes, if you wear glasses you cannot focus on things that you see virtually in the distance. Apple has designed insert lenses for this in collaboration with optical company Zeiss. And these are cheaper than many experts previously expected.

Two versions of insert lenses

Apple will offer two versions of the so-called ‘ZEISS Optical Inserts’ at different prices. A version called ‘Reader’ (if you only need glasses for reading) is available for $99, while the ‘Prescription’ lenses are available for $149. You need the latter if you always wear glasses in everyday life. The inserts attach magnetically to the Vision Pro lenses for precise viewing and eye tracking.

Glasses wearers will need an official eye exam to get the insert lenses and not all prescriptions are supported, so there will be some limitations that may prevent some people from using the headset.

More accessories

The insert lenses are the only optional accessories for the Vision Pro headset that Apple has announced so far. The Vision Pro headset comes standard with a Solo Knit Band, a Dual Loop Band, a Light Seal, two Light Seal cushions, a cover for the front of the device, a cleaning cloth, a battery, a USB-C charging cable and a USB-C charger.
